Set in his ways? Sister Wives star Kody Brown has always stood by his decision to live a polygamous lifestyle, even though he hasn’t had the best luck with his marriages in the past.

Kody and his family are members of the Apostolic United Brethren (AUB). The religion is a sect of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (FLDS) or the Mormon religion, which allows their followers to practice polygamy.

The reality star has said that “love should be multiplied, not divided,” though it appears that not all of his family members share the same belief.

In November 2021, Christine Brown announced that she left the Brown patriarch after more than 25 years of marriage.

“Kody and I have grown apart and I have made the difficult decision to leave,” Christine wrote via Instagram at the time. “We will continue to be a strong presence in each other’s lives as we parent our beautiful children and support our wonderful family. At this time, we ask for your grace and kindness as we navigate through this stage within our family”

Just more than one year later, In Touch exclusively broke the news that Janelle Brown and Kody called it quits after nearly 30 years of marriage.

“Janelle is a strong independent woman and realized she can do it on her own,” a source told In Touch in December 2023, adding that the mother of six “outgrew him.”

Just one week later, Meri Brown confirmed that the businessman ended their relationship during the December 18, 2022, Sister Wives: One on One tell-all episode.

“It just doesn’t make sense to me that he would be so frustrated with Christine and be like, ‘She just made this decision,’” Meri told host Sukanya Krishnan. “We didn’t consult, we didn’t talk, she just made the decision, and then he says, ‘No, I don’t consider myself married to Meri.’ Like, he just made the decision. I’ve never heard him say that to me.”

Kody’s last wife standing is Robyn Brown, whom he legally married in 2014 in order to adopt her kids from her previous marriage. However, many fans have speculated that it’s only a matter of time until the father of 18 adds another wife to his family.

An insider exclusively told In Touch in January 2023 that Kody is “definitely actively looking” for a new wife.

“He’s a proud polygamist, that’s the lifestyle he’s accustomed to and in his mind,” the source shared, adding that Kody wouldn’t be “happy” with a monogamous marriage to Robyn.

However, the TLC personality shocked fans in March 2023 when he said that he and Robyn are “basically monogamous.”

HIS CALLING
Kody revealed he felt a “divine calling” to practice polygamy, though admitted that he doesn’t think any of his children will have polygamist relationships.

“I think the majority of them are oriented towards Christianity,” he said during a March 2020 episode. “I wanted to advocate faith for my children, but I’ve really set it in their place to make their choices about God and religion.”

‘CONFORM TO PATRIARCHY’
Following his split from Christine, Kody was determined to keep his other marriages together.

“Here’s the funny thing in plural marriage: a wife works with you or works against you,” he said during the October 2, 2022, episode of the reality show.

After he broke down the dynamics between him and his remaining wives, Kody explained that he feared the others would seek independence like Christine.

“I got a feeling through this experience that each wife has a breaking point where they’re just not going to put up with what the other wives’ needs are anymore,” he continued in a confessional. “They’re going to do their own thing.”

Kody then asked his wives to “conform to patriarchy again” after he admitted that their family had not turned out the way he “designed.”

“I’m disappointed in how I’ve managed this. I felt like all of your independence was more important [and] in that [thought process] we sort of loss some sort of community,” he added. “I guess I’m just sorry we failed.”

BECOMING MONOGAMOUS?
Kody shocked fans when he gave a surprising update about his relationship with Robyn while filming a Cameo video for a fan, which circulated on TikTok in March 2023.

“Robyn and I are basically monogamous,” he said in the clip. “Don’t let that out, that’s probably a spoiler, but it seems obvious with the new season coming.”

He added that he likely “won’t be having any more wives” any time soon.

NO ADVICE TO SHARE
In the same Cameo video that updated fans on Kody and Robyn’s relationship, he admitted he doesn’t have any advice for a couple that was considering polygamy.

“But you guys could always be in plural marriage,” he said in the clip. “You could always be a sister wife still. Just, you gotta talk your man into that, and I’m not sure [if] that’s a good idea. I don’t have any recommendations on that.”

In a second Cameo video, the Arizona resident gave the couple an “assignment” to “help [them] get this figured out” as they continue to disagree on having a plural marriage.

“He isn’t perfect, but he’s still a good guy. Remember the good times and the things like watching Sister Wives and eating snacks, and [he] loves you. … Next time you get a chance, you’re gonna go on a date, and you’re gonna do something that neither of you have ever done, especially together,” Kody said. “It’s gotta be something you agree on, and take the time to do the fun thing that’s different and special. And after that, take the time to reflect on your relationship and see where it is that you need improvement. You must be vulnerable, and you must communicate with honesty and kindness, and see if you guys [can] get this worked out.”
